Tom Blomqvist (Jagonya Ayam with Carlin) was the fastest in the first qualifying session of the 61st Macau Grand Prix. With a lap completed in 2'11"922, the Briton should have secured a good place on the grid for the qualifying race by a tenth ahead of his teammate Antonio Giovinazzi. Nick Cassidy (Threebond with T-Sport) and Lucas Auer (Mücke Motorsport) follow more than half a second behind, while Jordan King (GR Asia with Carlin) completes the top five, eight tenths behind the benchmark.
The favorites for victory are behind and are already seeing their weekend become more complicated. Max Verstappen (Van Amersfoort Racing) achieved the sixth fastest time, nine tenths from the provisional pole, whileEsteban Ocon (SJM Theodore Racing by Prema), the reigning champion of the F3 European Championship, ranked tenth, more than a second behind. But the two big rivals of the F3 season will receive a two-place grid penalty for the qualifying race for running a red light and missing weight checks during free practice.
