Merger in sight between Formula Renault and Formula Regionale

With 12 single-seaters entered this season in the Regional and 18 in the Eurocup, the future of the two championships looked complicated. Reason why their respective promoters, namely the ACI Sport-WSK Promotion and Renault Sport, are considering joining forces to create a single series from next season. “ There had already been discussions along these lines in 2018 and 2019, Benoît Nogier, sales director of Renault Sport Racing, told us. What is certain is that they have never been as advanced as they are now. »

Even more precarious with the health crisis, the current economic situation makes this merger almost essential. According to our information, the Tatuus T-318 chassis, common to both series, will be retained, while the engine will be provided by Renault. Pirelli, already involved in the Regional, would be the exclusive tire supplier, even if this point is not yet completely resolved 100%.

If it comes to fruition, this union would make it possible to increase the level of this category located between Formula 4 and the FIA. F3. Prema, who has won 28 of the 36 races in the history of Formula Regional Europe, can only be delighted to find ART Grand Prix, R-ace GP and others. What about the name? Without much surprise in view of recent announcements, it is more than likely that the appellation Alpine makes its appearance. A confirmation could come as early as the weekend of 1er November in Imola, on the occasion of the Grand Prix of F1, on the sidelines of which the Eurocup will take place.
