Macau F3 GP – Alex Lynn undisputed winner

Winner of the 2013 edition of the Macau Grand Prix and winner of the FIA Formula 3 Intercontinental Cup, Alex Lynn enhanced his record this morning with two additional fine lines. In spirit in free practice then yesterday's winner of the qualifying race, the resident of Theodore Racing by Prema showed himself uncompromising today in the streets of this former Portuguese colony. The 20-year-old Briton has never ceded the reins of the event to one of his rivals.

Second on the starting grid, Felix Rosenqvist was one of the various victims of the first lap. A first lap, as is often very lively, which will finally see the safety car enter the track. A safety car which will be placed in front of a peloton led by Alex Lynn ahead of Luis Felipe Derani (Fortec Motosports), Antonio Felix da Costa, Raffaele Marciello (D88.com Prema Powerteam) and Alexander Sims (ThreeBond with T-Sport).

In no way disturbed by the mishaps suffered by some of his opponents, Lynn retained the advantage on the restart. Behind him, however, Antonio Felix da Costa overtook Pipo Derani... also overtaken a few loops later by the European champion Raffaele Marciello. While the Lynn took off, stringing together the best laps in the race, Marciello was surprised and crashed his Dallara into the rail. Derani didn't ask for that much, taking back the third place he had held a few minutes earlier. The top three will no longer move. And it is from the hands of Jean Todt, president of the FIA, that Alex Lynn will receive the coveted trophy.

“I finished third in the Macau Grand Prix last year, and since then I only had one goal in mind, to win this race, blurted out a radiant Alex Lynn. We worked a lot all weekend to get to this point. Yesterday I noticed a lot of understeer, Raffaele Marciello was clearly faster than me, especially in the last part. With Prema Powerteam we have further improved the car today. Antonio (Felix da Costa. Ed.) came back at the end of the race. I told myself that I had to give everything to absolutely achieve this result. It?s an important victory in my career, that?s for sure. When I see the list of winners of this race, I can only smile tonight. »

Outgoing winner, Antonio Felix da Costa, cannot be fully satisfied with this second place. But after a difficult season in Formula Renault 3.5 Series, the resident of Red Bull Junior Team can be proud of its performance. “Obviously I wanted to win today, he admits. But I always said that if I didn't win, I at least wanted to have good races. This was the case yesterday as today. I no longer drove Formula 3 Since the 2012 Macau Grand Prix, the guys around me have been at the top of their game in this car. So I'm happy today and congratulations to Alex Lynn, he was perfect all weekend?

Behind Derani, third, we found Alexander Sims and Jordan King, who will remain the best rookie of this edition. But on the French side, we will remember the extraordinary performance of Esteban Ocon (Prema). After stalling on the starting grid and completing the first lap in 23rd position, the Lotus protégé F1 Team managed to regain its 10th place on the starting grid. A feat that deserves to be highlighted when we know that he was making his debut in Macau…and in Formula 3!

In the Manufacturers' classification of the FIA Formula 3 Intercontinental Cup, it is Mercedes who wins the laurels. Not in great shape until recently, F3 had a very promising year in 2013. A new European Championship which has regained its former glory and an edition of the Macau Grand Prix which has undoubtedly pitted future stars against each other. The discipline is about to soon become a compulsory step again for all drivers wishing to reach the highest level. Signature, Oreca and Renault were not mistaken...
