The debates resumed well in Formula 2. Almost a month after the second race at Brands Hatch, a chaotic race where Henry Surtees was killed, the Formula 2 drivers returned to Great Britain and the track, on the Donington Park circuit. If Natacha Gachnang had spoken of a boycott a few weeks ago, the Swiss driver is present at the meeting, like the 23 other drivers present at Brands Hatch. Only one will be missing, Henry Surtees. Despite everything, the British pilot who died last month will not be forgotten. Formula 2 organizers plan to pay tribute to him on Sunday.
To allow the drivers to get back into contact with the track smoothly, a test session was scheduled for Tuesday at Donington Park. Limited to 300 km of tests, the 24 competitors were able to understand the layout of the circuit and resume their habits, at the wheel of their car that they had not driven for more than three weeks. During the combined classification of these tests, Andy Soucek, leader of the general classification of F2, was able to do well. He was ahead of Milos Pavlovic and Julien Jousse, two usual rivals from the first half of the season.
If there are four race weekends left, Donington Park included, and therefore many contenders for the final victory (Wickens, Eng, Jousse, Hegewald, Bortolotti, Aleshin), Andy Soucek clearly appears as the favorite of the competition . The Spanish driver, with a good lead in the championship standings, is in fact the best placed to emerge as the first champion of the new Formula 2. Andy Soucek could thus offer himself the coveted reward of this title: a test at the wheel of? a Williams F1. But there are many candidates and some will try to reverse the trend at Donington Park.
