The FIA will set up an international F3 series

La F3 will be expected to develop in the coming years. The FIA World Council has announced plans to establish an international championship in 2019 “in order to consolidate the pyramidal structure of the FIA going from karting to the F1 ».

The FIA therefore issued a call for tenders in order to select a chassis manufacturer, an engine manufacturer and appoint a promoter who could also submit a proposal as a chassis or engine manufacturer.

The grid formation has already been defined with 24 cars divided into eight teams (which will therefore each have three drivers). The calendar will feature nine or ten events with two races per meeting. In addition to the chassis and engine, a single brand of tires will also be offered.

The F3s will have a new chassis, an engine developing 350hp. Teams will be limited and monitored in practice.

In terms of the chassis, Ligier could be interested since Jacques Nicolet's company recently unveiled the chassis that will equip American F3s in 2018 and which already has Halo, this cockpit protection system which will be made compulsory from next year in FIA-labelled single-seater championships.
