The new F3 revealed

La nouvelle F3 was unveiled in the paddock of the Abu Dhabi GP at the Yas Marina circuit. This new car is, according to the press release, the best compromise between the current formulas in GP3 and F3.

The 3 F2019 approved to run until 2021 is powered by the 6l Mecachrome V3,4 capable of developing 380hp at 8000rpm, while the chassis was built by Dallara. Made with the aim of offering an attractive performance/cost ratio, this new F3 benefits from optimized aerodynamics to make overtaking easier. The suspension settings will also be multiple. This single-seater obviously meets the new FIA safety criteria, notably with the presence of the Halo. Pirelli will remain the series manufacturer, offering three choices of tires.

Performance will be top-notch since the F3 2019 will be able to reach 300km/h, while its 6-speed sequential gearbox will help the driver reach 0 to 100km/h in just 3 seconds and 0 to 200km/h in 7' '7.

The 3 F2019 carried out a successful shakedown on October 11 on the Nevers Magny-Cours circuit (Nièvre) and subsequently completed 165 laps on the French track. Development tests will continue in order to offer the most reliable car possible to the teams. Three sessions are planned in December to work on performance.

“This is the final step in the process of placing F3 on the same platform as F2 and F1, which was an important objective for the FIA, explains Charlie Whiting, the director of F1 within the FIA. This car, which offers more power and is more spectacular than its predecessors, follows developments at the highest level of sport. »

The first deliveries are planned for mid-January 2019. The second and third models will be supplied together in February. A shakedown with one car for each team will be organized the same month to allow the teams to prepare for their season before the official tests.

“F3 has a long and rich history and this is the start of an exciting new chapter to see it become a regular support race for Grands Prix. This category will continue to prepare and educate young drivers by providing them with the best opportunities to achieve their goals”, adds Charlie Whiting.
