The Regional and Formula Renault merge

Exit the Formula Renault Eurocup and the Regional Formula Europe, place for the Regional Formula Europe by Alpine ! As we announced a few weeks ago in our columns, the two competing championships located between the FIA F3 and Formula 4 in the pyramid of car will merge next season and become one and the same championship.

The news was made official this Saturday, October 31 at Imola, where Formula Renault is present in support of the Formula 1, during a press conference attended by Jean Todt, president of the FIA, Stefano Domenicali, head of single-seaters at the FIA, Cyril Abiteboul, director of Renault Sport Racing, and Angelo Sticchi Damiani, president of the ACI and co-promoter of Formula Regional this season.

“We are very pleased to make this announcement, said Stefano Domenicali. “This new championship will indeed make it possible to structure the pyramid leading up to Formula 1 even better, and will allow drivers coming from national F4 championships to continue their learning in a solid and competitive environment before possibly joining the world level in FIA F3 » he said.

The Regional Formula Alpine will be made up of ten rounds per season, three of which will be held in Italy and seven in the rest of Europe. It will follow the current Formula Renault format with two separate qualifying sessions and two races per weekend. Quite logically, Renault, which will become Alpine from next season, will take care of the technical dimension by providing the engine for the category. Regarding the tires, the discussions took time but it was Pirelli, current supplier of the Regional Formula (Hankook is the supplier of the Eurocup), which won the day.
