The Pau Grand Prix returns to European F3

The FIA World Council has revealed the final calendar for the 2014 season of the FIA F3 European Championship. As Philippe Sinault, the director of Signature, indicated during the announcement of the team's return to the discipline, the city of Pau is reinstated in the F3 calendar for the Grand Prix contested on the weekend of May 11. The season will no longer start at Monza but at Silverstone on the weekend of April 20 on the sidelines of the WEC, while the Italian event is replaced by Imola on the weekend of October 12. The Spa-Francorchamps circuit (aside from the WTCC), Moscow and the Hungaroring are also on the program. The calendar goes from ten to 11 rounds.

“The calendar that we have managed to put in place for 2014 will allow drivers to perfect their learning at the best level of competition on several major circuits of the F1, in addition to two events which played an important role in the history of F3 », commented Gerhard Berger, President of the FIA Single-Seater Commission. “The F3 European Championship will evolve alongside the best meetings, including seven rounds of the DTM and two FIA World Championship events: the WEC and the WTCC. The F3 European Championship will also return to the prestigious Pau Grand Prix... The combined efforts of the FIA and promoter ITR have attracted new engine manufacturers and new teams and F3 regains the role it should never have lost in motorsport. Without losing sight of cost control, the arrival of the new generation of engines and the introduction of new technical regulations will provide the necessary foundations for F3 to grow and become an inevitable step for drivers wishing to access F1. and other professional championships. »
