F3 Macau Grand Prix achieves FIA World Cup status

The streets of Macau have honored many drivers who have subsequently won titles in the highest levels of motorsport, such as Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher. The winners of the Grand Prix were then awarded an FIA Intercontinental Cup.

A status that will evolve in 2016 with the move to an FIA World Cup (based on the model of the GT round in 2015), the international federation also taking over the organization of the event, following the withdrawal of promoter Barry Bland (MRC Consultants).

“Mr Barry Bland worked on the Grand Prix F3 of Macau since its debut in 1983. As the race has been elevated to World Cup status, the regulations have changed and the FIA will be responsible for the project. As a result, Mr Barry Bland has made the decision to terminate his appointment.

The Macau Grand Prix Organization's sporting subcommittee respects Mr. Bland's decision and wishes to express its gratitude for his many years of contribution and service. The FIA will both direct and coordinate all technical aspects relating to the FIA F3 World Cup, including regulations, entries and registrations. The FIA and the sporting subcommittee of the Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee are working closely together, and the deadline for entries will be September 30. »

We will have to wait until October to know the entry list which may well have no difficulty in filling up in view of this new status. The Macau events will take place from November 17 to 20, with, alongside F3, the GT, or the TCR Series. Felix Rosenqvist remains the double title holder in car.
