The Toyota Racing Series without international drivers

Well established for several years as one of the flagship preparatory competitions for the European season, the Toyota Racing Series is expected to run without international drivers in 2021. While it was initially granted a quarantine exemption and easier immigration conditions for drivers wishing to travel to New Zealand and compete in the competition, the Tightening of entry conditions into the country dictated by the Kiwi government no longer allows this.

As a direct consequence, there will be no foreign drivers lined up in 2021 in TRS, which will take place this year exceptionally over three rounds. “Having worked collaboratively with the New Zealand Minister for Work, Innovation and Sport, we are disappointed not to be able to welcome international drivers to New Zealand, explained Andrew Davis, the boss of the competition branch of Toyota New Zealand.

The championship, which features single-seaters from the category F3 Regional, will take place between January 24 and February 14 and should therefore only feature Kiwi drivers. As a reminder, it was the Brazilian Igor Fraga who won the last edition, ahead of the winner of the previous campaign, Liam Lawson.
