Hitchcockian scenario in the southwest. The second race of the Euroformula Open, awarding the 78th Grand Prix de Pau, saw the victory of Billy Monger (Carlin), although the latter was only qualified in 11th place.
The Briton, an amputee of both legs, chose to go through the pits before the lights went out. Indeed, the rain made a surprise return to Béarn; the majority of the peloton Formula 3 kept the slick tires for fear of losing too many pit places. Billy Monger emerged from the pits in 13th place, many seconds behind the leading group.
The rookie then began an effective comeback, which saw him gain two to three seconds per lap on the leader Julian Hanses (Team Motopark). Having moved up to third place after around ten laps, Billy Monger took advantage of Liam Lawson's (Team Motopark) suicidal attack on his own teammate Julian Hanses on the 14th lap.
With both men down, Billy Monger didn't ask for much and took the lead. The intervention of the Safety Car brought together the survivors, and he managed to contain the attacks of his colleague Nicolai Kjaergaard (Carlin). Yuki tsunoda (Team Motopark) completes the podium of this Pau Grand Prix.
