Renault Sport adapts Formula Renault to Regional Formula 3

The French manufacturer will modify the current Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup to adapt it to Formula 3 Regional legislation in 2019. The calendar is a continuation of this.

Renault Sport adapts Formula Renault to Regional Formula 3

Rejected his request to promote the news Formula 3 regional European by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA, granted to the Automobile Club of Italy), Renault Sport Racing responds by transforming the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup into the Renault 2.0 Eurocup for 2019.

The Losange championship, organized since 1971, will change its technical base and will meet the Formula 3 Regional regulations. The chassis will be a Tatuus F.3 T-318, equipped witha 1.8 liter turbocharged engine derived from the Mégane RS. and capable of delivering between 270 and 300 horsepower. Michelin will ensure the supply of tires.

Visually, this Formula 3 has the Halo around the cockpit as well as the Aerocat, an aerodynamic element seen on the Renault F1 in 2017. " With our extensive experience and the introduction of this new car efficient and accessible, the most ambitious and talented pilots of their generation will be able to continue their learning in a relevant category recognized by all, explains Benoît Nogier, Sales Director of Customer Competition for Renault Sport.

Formula Renault Eurocup has the foundations, know-how and assets necessary to successfully complete this transition. » To ease the transition, the weekend format will not be changed, and will always keep two races per meeting. Like this year, the winner will be able to enter the Renault Sport Academy.

Despite the proliferation of F3 championships, all the teams present in 2.0 Eurocup have declared themselves strongly interested by the future of the discipline. Renault Sport is counting on around thirty participants.

The dates for the 2019 calendar have not yet been finalized, butwe already know nine of the ten planned destinations : Barcelona (Spain), Paul ricard (Var), Hungaroring (Hungary), Monza (Italy), Nürburgring (Germany), Red Bull Ring (Austria), Silverstone (Great Britain), Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium) and Monaco subject to validation.
