Vietoris declared winner

His series of victories had to end one day. Jules Bianchi, sixth in this second Oschersleben race, allows another driver to climb to the highest step of the podium. And it is a very regular driver this season who has achieved this. Christian Vietoris, author of a podium every race weekend, was able to do well, despite the leadership of Stefano Coletti during most of the race.

Although the German driver scores six points for victory, he has never been in the lead of the race. At the start, Mika Mäki, the pole sitter, allowed himself to be overtaken by Stefano Coletti, who then escaped. As the laps went by, the Monegasque was able to increase his lead, counting up to more than ten seconds at the end of the race.

For his part, Jules Bianchi started from eighth place, following the reverse grid principle. He managed to get the better of Jean-Karl Vernay before tackling Christian Vietoris. By overtaking the German after a bitter fight, the Nice native allowed Vernay to take advantage of the opportunity to overtake Vietoris in turn.

Finally, Stefano Coletti crossed the finish line in the lead, ahead of Mika Mäki and Alexander Sims. But, for not having respected the yellow flag waved following an accident by Christopher Zanella, the Monegasque was penalized, along with twenty other drivers, with a thirty-second penalty. It is thus Christian Vietoris, seventh and first driver not penalized, who inherits first place.

The German thus inherits the six points from the victory, adding to the five points gleaned on Saturday. Vietoris consolidates his second place in the championship by scoring 11 points, one point less than Jules Bianchi, who now has a lead of 18 points at the top of the general classification of Formula 3 Euro Series.

Christian Vietoris, at the end of the race, found his accession to first place logical. “ I happily accept the six points from this victory. If the other drivers indeed drove too fast despite the yellow flag, the sanction is only deserved. Finally, we do not wave the yellow flag for pleasure, but to guarantee the safety of the people who take care of the vehicle that has left the circuit. » For his part, Stefano Coletti was inevitably disappointed. The Monegasque has not won a race since the opening round at Hockenheim. “ I didn't go any faster on the first section, where the yellow flags were waved. It's possible that my laps have become a little faster. But it is not because of the first sector, rather because of the other two. I'm super disappointed. »
