Wickens inaugurates Formula 2

Former resident of the 2008 Formula championships Renault 3.5 and from Formula 3 EuroSeries, Robert Wickens this time did not wait to achieve his first victory. By winning in the first race of the season, the Canadian has already equaled his 2008 record: a victory. But the pilot of the Red Bull Junior Team can congratulate itself on its Valencia weekend, even if there is still one race to go. In two days, Wickens was a hit in this new discipline of Formula 2 : pole position gleaned in the two qualifying sessions and victory in the first race.

The Canadian was able to keep his advantage over the 23 laps and protect himself from hard hits. Something that some drivers failed to do, like Andy Soucek, who had nevertheless shown good disposition at the start of the weekend. The Spaniard caused the exit of the safety car and, consequently, of Tobias Hegewald, who did not respect the instructions when exiting the safety car. Julien Jousse, who started in sixth position, did not start the race well. In seventh position on the fifteenth lap, the Frenchman took advantage of the withdrawals of Soucek and Hegewal to finish in fifth position. A result which allows Jousse to foresee good things for this Formula 2 season.
