FR Eurocup-C1: The elements benefit Victor Martins in Hungary

The rain will have disrupted the first Formula confrontation more than necessary Renault Eurocup in Hungary on the track near Budapest, and Victor Martins (MP Motorsport) comes out of this day with a vital success in terms of the title.

Author of pole this morning, the Frenchman had the opportunity to score big points against the championship leader Oscar piastri (R-ace GP) only 6th in the session. But the latter lost all hope of doing well in the grid lap by making a mistake, leaving a potential boulevard to Martins.

The track conditions still had to be managed. But in view of the showers, the race management, who had already ordered a start under safety car regime, took no risks and displayed the red flag after five laps.

The officials stopped the classification at the end of the third round, Martins winning ahead of Alexander Smolyar (R-ace GP) and Lorenzo Colombo (MP Motorsport). “I think it was the right decision to stop the race for safety reasons,” confesses Martins.

We were all aquaplaning and I told my engineer on the grid lap that it was perhaps even a little too dangerous. We simply had to survive the installation round today.

This victory allows me to regain twelve and a half points on Oscar while preventing me from regaining twenty-five. » Piastri remains championship leader with 197 points heading into tomorrow's race, with Martins on 27,5 points.
