EN Eurocup – Colapinto ideally starts at Monza

Franco Colapinto (MP Motorsport) had already shown his speed during the pre-season tests held at the start of the week in Formula Renault Eurocup, raising its name to the top of almost every timesheet. But this Friday at the Monza Autodrome, he did it at the right time.

Author of a good start from 4th place, Colapinto, not yet assured of completing the entire season in the Eurocup, won the first race of the season ahead of Alex Quinn (Arden) and Caio Collet (R-Ace GP).

The Argentinian took 2nd place in the first corner after a strong attack on Martins. He then managed to take the lead from Alex Quinn halfway through the race, thanks to a nice maneuver on the brakes.

Bad luck for Martins

Starting 3rd, Victor Martins (ART Grand Prix) remained in the exhausts of Franco Colapinto throughout the first half of the race. Until the restart occurred after the appearance of the first of the two safety cars of the day.

The Ile-de-France rider got off to a better start than the Argentinian, but the two men touched each other at turn 1 when Martins tried to overtake his competitor. The Frenchman was forced to return to the pits to change his nose.

Coming out 15th, and thanks to an aggressive end of the race, Martins finally managed to save the furniture and get into the points (10th). He will start on pole for race 2 on Saturday (9:45 a.m.).

For his part, for his first race in Formula Renault Eurocup, Hadrien David (MP Motorsport) was able to resist all the adventures of the race to take an encouraging 7th place. The Renault Sport Academy resident managed to make some good overtakes in the peloton.

Also note the incident between Joey Alders (MP Motorsport) and Paul Aron (ART Grand Prix), with a dangerous attack from the first on the second. Both drivers were forced to retire.
