FR Eurocup: Vidales takes pole in race 1

Announced only four days ago in Formula Renault Eurocup, David Vidales (JD Motorsport), which is making its debut in car, signed pole position for the first qualifying of the weekend at Imola. The Spaniard beat one of the two championship leaders, the Brazilian Caio Collet (R-Ace GP / +0 »114), and the reigning vice-champion of the category, the French Victor Martins (ART Grand Prix / +0 »139).

Already faster in the free practice sessions held on Friday morning in the dry, the Spaniard is experiencing a rapid adaptation. He will therefore start in pole position in his very first single-seater race. His teammate William Alatalo (JD Motorsport), dominator of the collective tests on Thursday, only set the 4th fastest time.

MP Motorsport in difficulty

For its part, after being very comfortable at Monza a fortnight ago, MP Motorsport seems to be having some difficulty finding the rhythm. Its flagship driver Franco Colapinto, co-leader of the championship with 40 points, will only start from 11th position (+0 »8), while the French driver Hadrian David (MP Motorsport) set the 16th time of the session, 1”128 behind the poleman.

In difficulty for his big debut in the Eurocup last week, the other Frenchman Reshad of Gerus (Arden) made some progress by setting the 8th fastest time in qualifying, 0 seconds behind the reference time. Race 454 of the second round of the season will take place at 1:15 p.m. in Imola.
