Julien Jousse had affirmed it: he could, from this weekend, take first place in the championship standings. Formula 2. He did it. Unfortunately for the Frenchman, this leadership status did not last long. Penalized by ten seconds at the end of the first race, Andy Soucek left first place in the general classification to Jousse, before regaining his possession at the end of the second race, having gleaned the eight points for second place.
For victory, Tobias Hegewald was the overwhelming favorite. Author of the best times during free practice and then during qualifying, the German had already won the first race on Saturday. During this second round, he was once again the indisputable leader, taking half a second per lap from his opponents. “It’s a fabulous weekend,” said Hegewald after the race. I was faster in each session and I left with the maximum points. I am very, very happy. »
Behind, Soucek recovered well from his penalty the day before and got the better of Wickens. The latter, whose car had to undergo many repairs during the night, fought throughout the race to keep Alex Brundle behind him. If the Briton managed to overtake at the Source, Wickens caught up quickly to regain third place. In the final laps of the race, Pavlovic managed to pass Brundle, who however resisted the return of Jousse. The Frenchman, only sixth, was therefore unable to maintain his leadership position, leaving the controls to Soucek who knew how to capitalize.
