Henry Surtees, killed in the race

The young 18-year-old driver was hit on the head by Jack Clarke's wheel, which was thrown when the car #11 hit the wall on the Westfield curve.

Surtees lost consciousness and went off the track on the Sheene bend. Extracted from his car by the emergency services, the driver was stabilized on the circuit before being airlifted to the Royal London hospital.

A hospital spokesperson announced the pilot's death a few minutes ago "as a result of his injuries."
