Jousse: “First place is playable”

Julien, what is your objective heading into this Spa weekend, the third round of the season?
Take as many points as possible. This is the objective for my start to the season. We started it with a lot of question marks, we still don't know the car well. I'm not yet very comfortable there but my goal is to finish the races. In Valencia, I limited the damage. In Brno, I took advantage of many mistakes to score big points.

Is first place in the ranking playable?
Of course, I'm third, just five points behind the leader. But the objective of the weekend is above all to finish the two races and score points. We will see, depending on the qualifiers, what we can achieve this weekend. But it's true that first place is up for grabs this weekend.

What do you think of this Formula 2, while you were driving in Formula Renault 3.5 last year?
It?s really very different. In the World Series by Renault, the atmosphere was very good, I had a whole team pushing me. I had some very good times there, we won the team championship two years in a row? There, in F2, we are all alone. At the races, I have a mechanic, an engineer and my father who comes to support me. That?s the big difference. It?s not as exciting as the World Series. But the goal is to get the test F1*.

Is this the objective of your season?
My goal is not to drive in F1 because there is very little space but, indeed, to test a Formula 1 car. It?s very difficult to obtain this kind of test.

How do you assess the level of the Formula 2 field?
It is very variable. There are very good drivers, are there younger ones? There is level in front, there is less in the back. But the car allows everyone to express themselves because it is not very selective, does not go very quickly. As the driver is very involved in setting up his car, many also make mistakes. Despite everything, there are young people who are showing themselves and who have potential. For my part, I try to be consistent, which was not necessarily the case in previous years.

We saw you running 24 Hours of Le Mans in LMGT1 at the wheel of a Corvette C6.R. How did you experience the race?
Very good, it was my first experience in GT. So it was a challenge. But it also served me to prepare for the future to repeat the experience.

So that?s the objective?Endurance ?
Yes, for 2010. Single-seater racing is good, it?s a good way to learn to race. But, apart from Formula 1, where there are already few places, there is not much. So the objective is the GT.

*At the end of the season, the F2 champion will obtain a test on a Williams F1
