In this difficult period of global pandemic, where good news is as frequent as car races in recent weeks, there are still a few exceptions. After seeing its total super license points reduced at the end of 2019 (from 18 to 15 for the champion, from 15 to 12 for the vice-champion, etc.), the championship organized by Renault just got his points back.
An important issue to continue to attract the best promising drivers. “We are relieved, that’s clear, admits Benoît Nogier, the commercial director of Renault Sport Racing, because it’s always frustrating to have rules applied to you that you don’t understand.”
But then how can we explain this turnaround? “At the time, we asked the FIA for explanations but we did not get any answers. We sent a file to prove to the FIA that the championship meets all the criteria demanded by the body: our car is 100% FIA regulatory, we only run on circuits on which the F1 rolls, and in terms of pedigree, we are really well placed with more than two thirds of the current F1 grid having passed through our championship.”
The world council therefore reviewed its copy and considered that in view of the elements provided, this drop in points was not justified and that a return to the points allocated in 2019 should be made.
