For the first time in its young history, the W Series will take up residence in the Marina Bay of the Singapore circuit in 2022. From September 30 to October 2, the discipline reserved for women will serve as the curtain-raiser event for the Grand Prix from Singapore Formula 1, who has not argued since the pandemic in 2020.

Singapore actually replaces the trip initially planned to Suzuka (Japan), on October 7 and 8. Catherine Bond Muir, Managing Director, W Series) explains this change in program: “Since we announced our 2022 calendar last January, the global landscape has changed significantly. It is with regret that we will not be racing in Japan this year, where we have strong support, but the challenges involved have increased significantly over the last six months, meaning that for a young company like the ours, it is unfortunately no longer possible to organize a race there. »

The presence of the promotion formula, dominated by Jamie Chadwick since 2019, on the Asian continent, was essential according to Catherine Bond Muir. “It's easy to forget that the W Series was launched less than four years ago. Every step we have taken has been considered in the long-term interests of the series, as we aim to grow in the most sustainable way possible. Our 2022 season promised to be a landmark one as we held more races (10) in a single season than ever before, including a first ever race in Asia, which is a key market for us. I would like to thank Formula 1 and the Singapore GP team for helping us achieve this. »
