Macau: Vernay off to a good start

Jean-Karl Vernay (Signature), this season, was used to seeing Jules Bianchi (ART Grand Prix) shine during the Formula 3 Euro Series races. But, in Macau, it is the more experienced of the two drivers who is doing the best. Starting in second position in the qualifying race, the native of Villeurbanne was able to gain the upper hand over Marcus Ericsson (Tom?s), Japanese champion of F3.

« I started well, but I had no chance of overtaking Marcus Ericsson before the Lisboa corner, attests the Frenchman. But I took advantage of his aspiration during the restart and I was able to overtake him. The fact of finishing the race behind the safety car was to my advantage, Marcus no longer having the possibility of attacking me. »

Having completed the ten laps of the qualifying race in the lead, Jean-Karl Vernay will therefore start on pole for Sunday's race, the one which will make it possible to designate the successor to Keisuke Kunimoto, winner with Tom?s in 2008. The Frenchman will however have to compose with his direct competitors, Marcus Ericsson, Edoardo Mortara (Signature) and Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix), who will start behind Jean-Karl Vernay.
