Mortara, king of the Macau F3 Grand Prix

Edoardo Mortara, for a year, has reigned supreme over the F3. It must be said that the Italian has experience in the category. Arriving in F3 Euro Series in 2007 (eighth), Mortara finished vice-champion in 2008, behind Nico Hulkenberg. After an inconclusive season in the GP2 Series in 2009, the native of Geneva was invited by Signature to compete in the Macau F3 Grand Prix in 2009, a Grand Prix that he had almost won in 2008 (pole position, 2nd place final).

Edoardo Mortara then shone, winning the race in the former Portuguese province. Signature even scored a double thanks to Jean-Karl Vernay's second place. Both drivers have continued their careers perfectly since Mortara won the F3 Euro Series championship this year, with Signature, while Vernay won in Indy Lights, the antechamber of the?IndyCar Series.

This year, in Macau, Mortara had the perfect weekend: pole position, victory in the qualifying race and victory in the Sunday race. And, for Signature, it's a new double with second place for Laurens Vanthoor, Belgian driver, German F3 champion in 2009. However,

« It is for me a great honor to make history by triumphing a second time in Macau, explains Mortara, who even achieved his third consecutive podium. It was not easy, Laurens (Vanthoor), Valtteri (Bottas) and Daniel (Abt) were valiant competitors. I had to give 120% and behave like I did in qualifying in order to open up a gap to prevent my pursuers from getting in my wake. »

But everything was not easy for Mortara, who was overtaken during the first appearance of the safety car but who was able to regain control when the safety car entered the track again. Laurens Vanthoor, who could have won, does not regret his final ranking. “ The second safety car phase didn't help me, because it allowed Edoardo to overtake me during the restart. But I'm happy with this second position, Edoardo was simply too fast today. He deserved to go down in history »
