Roberto Merhi, winner and outsider

If Signature drivers Marco Wittmann and Edoardo Mortara have stood out at the start of the championship, we will also have to count on Roberto Merhi. The Spanish driver, who arrived in the discipline in 2009, however had to wait until this weekend, during the second round of the 2010 season, at Hockenheim, to win. But, with the six points of victory, the former Formula driver Renault 2.0, climbs to third place in the championship, behind the two Signature drivers.

Starting in fifth position in the second race of the weekend, Roberto Merhi started perfectly and overtook Antonio Felix da Costa on the third lap to fly to victory. “ I am naturally very happy to have won my first victory in Formula 3 Euro Series, which is also the first success of a Spanish driver ", says Merhi.

It's even a double for the Spanish colors since Daniel Juncadella, rookie who made a good start to the season, finished in second place. “ During the last laps, Daniel was getting closer and closer, continues Merhi. I concentrated on avoiding any mistakes, because I absolutely wanted to achieve this victory. »

« This is my first podium in the Formula 3 Euro Series and I am of course very happy, recognizes Juncadella for his part. At the end, I was just behind Roberto, but my tires were already too worn. Furthermore, he made no mistake. He deserved this victory, and I think I deserved second place too. »

At the top of the general classification, Edoardo Mortara consolidates his leadership position by obtaining his fourth podium (including a victory) in four races. “ Two places on the podium in one weekend is a good result, although of course I would have liked to win, admits Mortara. But I gleaned a good number of points and I leave Hockenheim at the top of the standings »
