Soucek confirms, Vautier surprises

Tristan Vautier, for a first, was able to do well in the game. Fourth in Formula Palmer Audi this season, the Frenchman started in the cousin discipline, the Formula 2, this weekend, in Barcelona. And, for his first race, the Frenchman stood out. Starting fifth, the young twenty-year-old driver took advantage of Nicola De Marco and Robert Wickens, the pole sitter, to move into third position from the first corner. Thus, in his first Formula 2 race, Vautier got on the podium at the end of the race.

Andy Soucek, who started second, recorded a sixth victory in fifteen races this season. The Spaniard, on his home soil, even finished the race in the Top 4 for the twelfth consecutive time. The 2009 champion was able to take advantage of Robert Wickens? apathy at the start to take the reins of the race and never let go.

Mikhail Aleshin, who aims to finish in second place in the championship, was able to resist pressure from Vautier to finish on the second step of the podium. With his eight points, the Russian comes back on Robert Wickens in the standings, the Canadian having had to abandon during the race, while he was mired in the middle of the peloton.

Behind Tristan Vautier, Julien Jousse allowed us to see two French drivers in the first four. Fifth in the championship after this race, the vice-champion of Formula Renault 3.5 Series (2008) maintains a slim hope of finishing on the podium in the final general classification. To do this, he will need to win the last race of the season, counting on a defection from Robert Wickens and Mikhail Aleshin. A very difficult challenge, knowing that Jousse will start from tenth place during the second race.
