Soucek, titled in F2, wins an F1 test

Andy Soucek, for several weeks, was the overwhelming favorite to win the first championship of F2 new formula. Qualified in sixth position on the grid, the Spaniard had to maintain a lead of more than 30 points over his rivals in the general classification.

At the start of the race, Kazim Vasiliauskas, the pole sitter, started perfectly. But an exit from Nicola De Marco will disrupt the start of the race. When he left the track, he brought down Tobias Hegewald, Pietro Gandolfi and Julien Jousse. Fortunately for him, the Frenchman can return to his stand and leave. He will also be the author of a spectacular comeback.

After the Safety Car period, Kazim Vasiliauskas escaped to take his first victory in F2. The Lithuanian has been proclaiming it for several weeks, he wants to achieve success before the end of this season.

Behind, Mirko Bortolotti tries to keep up with the pace. The Italian is followed by Robert Wickens and Andy Soucek. The Spaniard knows it, if he manages to stay in this place, he will officially be champion.

While Julien Jousse grabbed positions, returning to tenth place, Vasiliauskas escaped to the front and Andy Soucek climbed to third place. After 21 laps, the Lithuanian and the Spaniard shook their fists towards the sky: the first obtained his first victory in Formula 2 while the second won the 2009 title.

« I didn?t expect to win the championship today, said Soucek at the foot of the podium. The start was not easy, I started from sixth place. Then I was able to gain a few positions and show very good pace. I am really very satisfied. »
