Soucek winner of a chaotic race

This second race of Formula 2 at Brand Hatch will remain this season as the most chaotic on the calendar. Three red flags, numerous exits, spectacular accidents, this second round did not even manage to complete the nineteen laps planned for the program. The few drops of rain that fell at the start of the race upset many drivers, with outings on grass or gravel not being able to be counted on the fingers of one hand.

The first red flag was waved on the second lap after the exits of Pavlovic, Hoing and De Marco. After the restart, the cars once again showed their lack of grip on this very slippery Brands Hatch track. Hohenthal goes out in a turn and, while returning to the track, is sidestepped by Sanchez, who takes off on his wheel, which causes a yellow flag to appear. At the restart, nothing works out. Jack Clarke goes out to sea, hits the rail and sends a wheel and a piece of fin onto the track. Henry Surtees, who arrives behind, is hit by this wandering wheel and will hit the wall in the next corner.

The red flag is waved in order to clear the cars and come to the care of the two Britons. After the restart, Julien Jousse attempted a comeback to get into the top 8 but the red flag was raised for the third time, two laps from the end. In the confusion, Andy Soucek, who did not leave the race lead, was declared the winner ahead of Robert Wickens and Mikhail Aleshin.
