Bastianini, a question of regularity

Enea Bastianini now has as many victories as Jack Miller or Danilo Petrucci aboard a Ducati in MotoGP. And yet, the Italian, 2 Moto2020 world champion, only lined up at the start of his 22nd race in the category in Austin. Miller and Petrucci waited much longer.

According to Bastianini, he had to be intelligent during this race in order to preserve his tires, but above all, his physique. “Today, the strategy was to save the tires, but also the body,” explained the Gresini driver. It was very critical, especially the first sector. Starting from the second row, it was easier like in Qatar. When I saw Jack (Miller) at the start of the race, I told myself I was going to try to win, but I didn't know if I was going to be able to do it. Halfway through, Alex (Rins) attacked me several times, so I realized it was time to attack. Finally, I won. This is good for me, especially in Texas, one of the favorite cities. It's incredible ! »

“In Europe, I think the gap will narrow again” – Bastianini

This is the first time a Ducati has won in the United States since Casey Stoner in 2007 at Laguna. However, unlike Qatar, the Circuit of the Americas does not have a layout that is particularly suitable for the Italian factory's machines. “In Qatar there are a lot of straights and we have a lot of power, but here my bike was fast like the other Ducatis. We'll see if we can do it again, but for now I'm happy with this result. In Europe, I think the gap will narrow again. »

It is often said that the first victory is the most important, but for the protégé of Carlo Pernat who launched the career of a certain Valentino Rossi, that's not quite it. “All races are important and I once again score 25 points,” he explained. The first is the most special. I dedicated this victory to Fausto (…). This one (victory), however, remains better for me, because we now know that we are consistent. We are ahead in every race except Argentina, because it was a strange weekend for me. »
