Who crashed most often in MotoGP? 

As we explained last year, falling is part of the daily life of a Grand Prix driver. To find the limit, some people often need to go beyond it, while others, on the other hand, only manage to cross it on rare occasions. 

This year, 1106 falls were recorded in the three categories, only 335 in MotoGP, an average of just under 17 falls per weekend, which is relatively few considering the kilometers traveled. 

Fortunately, injuries are becoming increasingly rare thanks to the progress made by equipment manufacturers (suits, helmets, etc.). As a reminder, since 2018, the airbag has been mandatory. Unlike a car airbag which is triggered at the moment of impact, on a motorcycle it is a complex system full of algorithms and sensors that deploy the bag before the rider even hits the ground.

Darryn Binder takes the prize 

In 2022, Darryn Binder was the one who fell most often with a total of 27 antics. With just over 9266 km covered (in testing and racing), this figure represents an average of approximately one fall every 350 km for the rookie who made the jump from Moto3 without going through Moto2. In the standings, the South African is ahead of another rookie in the person of Marco Bezzecchi, who made mistakes 23 times, then two Honda representatives, Pol Espargaro and Alex Marquez, with 21 units on the clock. 

Tied for fifth are Enea Bastianini, Johann Zarco and Marc Marquez with 18 falls. Remember that Marc Marquez was only present at 12 of the 20 meetings this season. Just like last year, he made mistakes 1.5 times on average per weekend. 

Ducati and Honda in the lead 

With sometimes nine Desmosedici on the grid, Ducati therefore has a mathematically greater chance of finishing on the mat. This is indeed the case with 123 units to be credited to the Bologna factory.

Honda occupies the runner-up position with 81 crashes distributed among six drivers: Pol Espargaro (21), Alex Marquez (21), Marc Marquez (18), Takaaki Nakagami (12), Stefan Bradl (6) and Tetsuta Nagashima (3). It's no secret that the RC213V is one of the most difficult motorcycles to tame. 

Suzuki and Aprilia for their part have 19 falls. With two antics, Maverick Viñales (Aprilia) is the starting driver who has fallen the least often this season. Note that the Catalan crashed for the first time this year at the Aragon GP, ​​the 15th stop on the calendar.

Portugal hurts

The Portimão circuit holds the prize for the greatest number of falls with 105 in total over the three days. For the first time since 2018, the Bugatti is not at the top: the French track was only second with 87 falls. The Misano circuit completes the Top 3 of the year with 71 units on the clock.
