At the end of the first stage, Nasser Al-Attiyah was battling with Martin Prokop, leader of the event, who had a lead of more than 20 seconds over his closest opponent. But the Czech encountered transmission problems in the second and final stage of the Rally from Cyprus, leaving first place to the Qatari driver.
Helped by the absence of the official Skoda drivers, Juho Hanninen and Jan Kopecky, Nasser Al-Attiyah finally won ahead of Roger Feghali and Martin Prokop, who finished the Cyprus Rally on the last step of the podium. The first pilot Peugeot , Nicos Thomas, is only in fifth place behind Jaromir Tarabus (Fiesta S2000), after the retirement of Bryan Bouffier who had encountered suspension problems in the first stage.
The winner of the Cyprus Rally, who had announced before the start of the event that he intended to fight for victory, did not hide his satisfaction behind the finish line. “ I am really happy with this victory. We did a good job this weekend. We had some problems but we knew it was a difficult rally. »
The IRC also organized another event broadcast on television alongside the Cyprus Rally. This event, called Golden Stage Rally, included two special stages where Andreas Mikkelsen (Fiesta S2000) won 8,2 seconds ahead of Nasser Al-Attiyah and 13,8 seconds ahead of Bryan Bouffier. This rally also offered significant rewards to the first 13 crews. The Norwegian, first in the event, won the sum of 40 euros.
