Al-Attiyah winner of the Cyprus Rally and MERC champion

Nasser Al-Attiyah won the Cyprus Rally and claimed another MERC title. Chris Ingram completes the podium behind Simos Galatariotis, taking a good shot at the title.

Al-Attiyah winner of the Cyprus Rally and MERC champion

Nasser Al-Attiyah (Volkswagen Polo GTI R5) once again dominated the second day Rally of Cyprus by winning 5 of the 6 special stages on the program. The triple winner of the Dakar co-driven by Matthieu Baumel won with more than 2 minutes ahead of his closest pursuer, Simos Galatariotis (Skoda Fabia R5). His victory allows him to clinch his 15th title in the Middle East Rally Championship with one round to go before the end of the season.

Chris Ingram (Skoda Fabia R5) completes the podium ahead of Mikko Hirvonen (Ford Fiesta R5) and takes a serious option for the title following the retirement of his main rival, Alexey Lukyanuk (Citroën C3 R5).

Second in the event, the Russian from Saintéloc Racing had to dismount following a mechanical problem three stages from the finish. Lukasz Habaj (Skoda Fabia R5) saved a Top 5 despite major electrical problems with the accelerator.

Despite the 4th and last place in ERC 2 at the end of a difficult weekend, Juan Carlos Alonso and co-driver Juan Pablo Monasterolo (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo Peugeot 208 R2.
