ERC – Craig Breen hopes to be back for Barum Rally

Engaged on a Ford Fiesta RS WRC in Finland this weekend, the Irishman Craig Breen was unable to see the finish of the Finnish event following a violent crash after a jump in the first special of the 4th stage yesterday morning. Taken care of by doctors upon arrival of the ES, the usual pilot Peugeot in the European Rally Championship then spent the night under observation in hospital as a precaution. He came out this morning.

“He will need to be careful over the next few weeks and will seek the advice of the best specialists during his convalescence,
said his co-driver Scott Martin. Fingers crossed he'll be fit for Barum (August 29-31, Editor’s note.), which is our priority today. The title in ERC is always the main goal of our season. »

Breen will also have to wear a protective corset, and admitted to his co-pilot that he felt significantly less pain than yesterday. Breen's mishap inevitably recalls the setbacks of Timo Rautianen, co-driver of Marcus Grönholm at Peugeot, who experienced a similar situation in 2005 when landing a jump in Finland in the 307 WRC.

Find the report of the WRC round of Rally from Finland, in issue 1972 of AUTOhebdo, available this evening in digital version, and on newsstands from Wednesday.
