ERC – Kajetanowicz claims new title

Kajetan Kajetanowicz (Ford Fiesta R5) won the title for the second time in a row ERC at the end of Rally Liepaja won by local driver Ralfs Sirmacis (Skoda Fabia R5).

The Pole, slowed down at the start of the event by water pump problems, only needed fourth place to secure his coronation before the Rally of Cyprus scheduled for next month. The double European champion notably benefited from the absence of contenders for the coronation, Alexey Lukyanuk (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X) being his only real rival this year.

The Russian took second place, finishing one minute behind the winner who dominated the Latvian event, winning most of the stages. Siim Plangi (Lancer Evo X) completed the podium.

Despite his accident on the final route, Wojciech Chuchala (Subaru Impreza STI) secures the ERC 2 title following the retirement of Giacomo Scattolon (Lancer Evo IX). In the Junior category, it was Marijan Gabriel who won the title.
