Green light for the Azores

This is encouraging news for the European Rally Championship ERC which had already revised its 2021 calendar in the face of health restrictions and the coronavirus pandemic.

The Portuguese authorities, in particular the Special Commission for Monitoring the Fight against Covid-19, have highlighted the importance of Rally of the Azores, the first event on the calendar (May 6-8), and gave the green light to the organizers to set up the race.

“The confirmation that the 55th Azores Rally has received authorization to run, as planned, from May 6 to 8, is very good news, and with, in addition, access for spectators, indicates Jean-Baptiste Ley, championship coordinator. We thank the various authorities for their diligence and support.

While we make no secret of our immense enthusiasm for this spectacular event and the breathtaking images it offers viewers around the world, we will continue to work closely with the organizing team to ensure that all requirements set out in the Covid-19 protocols are fully respected by the ERC community as our number one priority remains the health and safety of all. »

More details on the presence of the public along the stages will be given in due time by the authorities.
