The approved Ford Fiesta Rally3

It had started competing in Finland earlier in the year, it is now approved to be entered at the start of the rallies on the 2021 calendar.

In development for several months, the Ford Fiesta Rally3, the first built to meet these new regulations of a four-wheel drive car slotted between the two-wheel drive Rally4s and the more efficient Rally2s, received its final FIA approval.

M-Sport peut ainsi se targuer d’offrir une version de sa Fiesta dans chaque catégorie, du Rally5 à la WRC current. The Rally3 is mainly expected this year on the rounds of theERC, with the championship for drivers under 28 contested with this type of car.

“The first ever Rally3 car has now been homologated and is badged M-Sport, recalls Malcolm Wilson, boss of the Dovenby Hall entity. From the start of the draft regulations, we were determined to support this category as it will provide many opportunities for young people in the national championships.

Reliable and economical cars are needed more than ever to ensure smooth progression for drivers and also for those looking to race with four-wheel drive cars with reduced running costs. Without a doubt, we'll see more brands joining us, which I'm really looking forward to. »

Indeed, only M-Sport is currently involved in the category. However, several manufacturers have a Rally4 in their range (the Rally3 being largely based on the latter), notably Peugeot or even Renault in the coming weeks, and which could thus develop a level potentially leading to becoming the ideal entry point for 4×4 in rally.
