What was supposed to be a two-legged duel this Sunday ended up being a walk in the park for Andreas Mikkelsen. Separated from Alexey Lukyanuk by just 4 seconds on Saturday evening, the Norwegian expected a competitive end to the weekend but that was out of the question.

The Russian still in contact after the first loop where he was only 9 behind with 3 special stages still to go, Andreas Mikkelsen took advantage of his opposite number's misfortunes to head straight for his 4nd success of the season in ERC after that obtained in the Azores two weeks ago.

Andreas Mikkelsen was indeed helped by the technical problems of Alexey Lukyanuk (broken front drive shaft) during SS13, the first of the 2nd loop of the day, to make the gap while behind the other competitors were already let go. If the Russian continued the Lusitanian event as best he could, he was logically never able to recover time from the Norwegian and even conceded several tens of seconds per special, thus giving him an end of rally peaceful which he will finish more than 2 minutes early.

With this second success of the season and still two rounds to go, Andreas Mikkelsen has just taken a big step forward towards the European title.

On the French side, this Fafe Rally was not that of Yoann Bonato. In difficulty on Portuguese soil, the Isérois finished almost 5 minutes behind the winner but with an 8th place overall all the same.
