At the wheel of her Audi Quattro, and co-driven by Fabrizia Pons, Michèle Mouton managed to obtain second place in the 1982 world rally championship. A performance which has never been replicated by a 100% female crew and which will make the subject of a new series, soon to be broadcast on France Télévisions, and called “ Rally 82”.

It was during the Séries Mania Festival in Lille that the project was presented. Directed by Julien Lacombe, who is also the screenwriter, with Haïga Jappain, the series will be available in four 52-minute episodes, produced by Empreinte Digitale. “Among the Scandinavian and German pilots reigning over the discipline, Michèle Mouton, the only female pilot entered, will overcome doubts and difficulties and fight for the title”, indicates the press release from France Télévisions.

Official Audi driver, Michèle Mouton won three world championship events in 1982. Victorious at the Rally de Portugal, the third round of the season, Mouton also won the Acropolis Rally and the Sanremo Rally, becoming the driver with won the most rallies that season. She finally finished the championship in second place, twelve small points behind the German Walter Röhrl, crowned in an Opel Ascona 400.

Today, Mouton works within the FIA, as “safety coordinator for rallies”. She was also president of the Women in Motorsport Commission, from 2009 to 2021.
