At Cadillac, it's an eventful start to the race for these 24 Hours of Le Mans. After the accident of the No. 311 at the start, the No. 3 then suffered an accident after an hour and a half of racing. Sebastian Bourdais, while driving, was hit from behind by the Ferrari AF Corse n°21, leaving the slow zone. After spinning, the Frenchman was able to leave with a damaged rear end, forcing him to return to the pits. Immediately after getting out of the car, Sébastien Bourdais reacted to the Chaîne l'Équipe microphone.

“These slow zones become confusing for everyone, it’s the best demonstration. They stop us in a slow zone before giving us a slow zone again, there is no green flag or yellow flag… we no longer know what we should do in our car”, criticized Manceau.

“The displays are late, the commissioners are necessarily also late because the transitions are not happening. They take away the first slow zone while we are right in the middle, it restarts for a hundred meters before waiting for the second slow zone... Apparently, there is an amateur behind us in a GT who must have looked at his buttons or I don't know what, he didn't brake and he hit me. »

Ultimately, the damage was only superficial, and after changing the rear bodywork and rear wing, Scott Dixon was able to restart on the same lap as the leaders. “I haven't looked too closely at [the damage] but we're still in the round, it doesn't seem to be too significant. It’s just incredible, so much energy and money to end up like that,” explained a bitterly bitter Sébastien Bourdais. The procedures become more and more complex, at some point it is better to just put up yellow flags. »
