For his big racing debut, Jimmie Johnson did not tempt the devil and contented himself with a 12-lap stint, spending an hour on the track at the wheel of the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 of NASCAR. He handed over the wheel to Jenson Button and was able to take advantage of a brief rest before returning to the track, this time with a double stint… in the rain! Not enough to dampen the enthusiasm of the American who lives this edition of the Centenary like a childhood dream.
“It was incredible, Johnson said of his first racing experience. I had to face several Slow Zones following the numerous incidents on track which punctuated my stint. It was a completely new experience for me to manage these interruptions before suddenly returning to a racing rhythm. Overall just an amazing experience. One of these Slow Zones was crowded with spectators. I could see them waving at me so I joined in and waved back. It was really, really fun. Now I want to take advantage of every lap I can complete. »
