The two-hour mark of racing has not yet been reached and the accidents are already coming one after the other. After Jack Aitken's crash at the start in the No. 311 Cadillac, two LM P2s experienced major accidents without being linked. First it was the No. 14 Nielsen which violently left the track at the entrance to the Dunlop chicane.
Rodrigo Sales, under pressure from the No. 3 Cadillac, lost control of the brakes and pulverized his mount against the tire barrier. Despite the damage, the Oreca was still alive... but was not allowed to return to the track, since the prototype was losing water and gasoline.

Only two minutes later, it was the Tower Motorsport's turn to hit the wall at high speed, in the Hunaudières. Ricky Taylor lost control of his car and spun into the background; car pulverized. The pilot came out safe and sound, but it was retirement for the Vaillante…
