Untouchable in Formula 1, Mercedes risks becoming one in esports this season as well. The German team has recruited F1 Esport series world champion Jarno Opmeer, titled with Alfa Romeo. The 20-year-old simracer trained at the Formula school Renault, in real life, won four races and scored eight podiums last year, a record.

He will be accompanied by Dani Moreno, best beginner of the year in 2020 with McLaren and author of an eighth place in the championship and a podium for best result. The reserve driver will be Bono Huis, 26, also in the championship last year.

“This crew shows what our ambitions are this season,” commented James Vowles, the team boss. We want to be at the forefront in different disciplines.” The poor results in the F1 esport series for two years also motivated this five-star recruitment.
