TCR launches global driver rankings

A successful formula introduced in 2015, the TCR continues to develop, both nationally and internationally with the TCR Europe and the WTCR. The formula launched by Marcello Lotti decided to unify all the participants in the TCR series, i.e. 928 drivers, in a single common classification, with symbolic value because it will not be the title holder.

From January 1, 2021, the calculation takes into account the racing results of each driver, which are weighted by two coefficients: the series in which they participated, as well as the size of the championship. Series weighting is divided into five categories: international, regional, national, endurance and other sprint races. The second coefficient takes into account the number of cars participating in each race meeting, with events with more than 20 cars being the highest rated.

The last 20 race results are taken into account; and drivers who have not raced for more than 30 weeks will begin to have their oldest results removed until they return to competition. With just two years of results, the TCR World Rankings now contain the scores of 928 drivers, with around 320 race results per year contributing to the calculation.

Rankings will be updated at midnight (Central European Time) every Wednesday.

“With so many championships and so many drivers racing in TCR, it made perfect sense to launch the TCR World Ranking, declared the president of the WSC group, Marcello Lotti. This is inspired by other popular sports, but which have not been used in motorsport until now.

“With over 1 cars built to its technical regulations, TCR is one of the most successful motorsport concepts of all time, and the scale and level of competition in TCR is immense – so I designed the TCR World Ranking as a way to showcase the performances of the great talents we see competing in TCR cars. »

As of October 14, 2022, Argentinian Franco Girolami is leader of this ranking, ahead of Chinese Ma Qing Hua and French double WTCR World Cup winner Yann Ehrlacher.
