WAU confirms Fabian Coulthard for Bathurst 1000

The New Zealander ultimately didn't take long to find a seat again. Replaced to everyone's surprise on February 12 within the PremiAir Racing team, Fabian Coulthard will drive for WAU this year. If Chaz Mostert and new arrival, Nick Percat, remain full-time with the Walkinshaw Andretti United team for 2022, Coulthard, as well as Warren Luff, also confirmed for Bathurst 1000, will aim for victory this year.

Fabien Coulthard, who has nearly 471 starts in the category, makes Bathurst his main objective, after finishing third in the Great Race in 2017:

“I've been fortunate over the years with the teams I've raced with that they've put me in a position to get good results in good cars, he declared on the championship website.Any next move, I want to do the best thing for my career and my family. »

“The goal, first and foremost, is to give myself the best chance possible to win Bathurst. »

The first cousin of the former pilot of F1, David Coulthard, notably moved to WAU in 2010 and 2011, finishing twelfth during his second season. Since then, he has scored 13 victories in the category between 2013 and 2020.

“We are absolutely delighted to have two drivers of Fabian’s caliber [Coulthard] and Warren [Luff] with us for Bathurst this year, it puts us in a really strong position alongside Nick [Percat] and Chaz [Mostert], said WAU team boss Bruce Stewart. Fabian was a priority target for us as soon as he became available. There is no doubt that he has the talent to be a full-time driver in the category, so having him with us is fantastic, and really strengthens our line for sure. »

“We have a very important test day today to start the year, so it will be great to have Chaz, Nick, Fabian and Luffy behind the wheel. »
