The initial version of the 2023 calendarEuroformula Open had given fans of the Pau Grand Prix (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) a cold sweat. Indeed, the Béarnais meeting was conspicuous by its absence, while it featured prominently in 2022 and 2019.
Fortunately, a revision of the calendar published this Tuesday, January 24 puts the French event back on the program, more precisely the weekend of May 12 and 13. In order to preserve an eight-round program, the Spanish organizers of the discipline had to decide to withdraw the Mugello event (Italy), scheduled for September 30 to October 1.
“We are delighted that the Euroformula Open is once again the flagship series of the Grand Prix de Pau, and even more so in this special year when this event, which has the longest and richest history in motorsport, will celebrate its 80th edition ", said Jesus Pareja, CEO of GT Sport, promoter of Euroformula.
“This is excellent news for all Euroformula contenders, as they will have the opportunity to compete on what is, with Monaco and Macau, the oldest and most prestigious street circuit in the world. I would like to thank everyone involved at Pau and the FFSA for making this possible, as well as ACI Sport for their understanding, as we withdraw from the Mugello event. »
Once considered, the Regional Formula track by Alpine in the streets of Pau came to an end at the end of 2022. The Euroformula Open therefore joins the French Formula 4 Championship among the single-seater disciplines on the poster for the 80th Pau Grand Prix.
