Starting from the front row in race 1, the Englishman Luciano Bacheta won the first race at Silverstone by overtaking the Swiss Christophe Zanella on the 20th of 22 laps. Previously, Zanella had overtaken pole sitter Mathéo Tuscher on the first lap. Alex Fontana took 3rd place ahead of Marinescu, McKenzie and Tuscher. Note the rise to 8th place of the German Markus Pommer, who started last.
Also note that this first race of the year was inaugural for the championship's new tire supplier, the Avon having made way for the Yokohama.
