The two free practice sessions for the Nürburgring round took place in changing weather conditions. Tom Blomqvist (Jagonya Ayam with Carlin) was the fastest in front Esteban Ocon (Prema) and Jake Dennis (Carlin) in the first requiring slick tires on a drying track.
In the rain in the second, the Lotus driver F1 Team Junior was the fastest. Ocon ahead Max Verstappen (Van Amersfoort) and Lucas Auer (Mücke).
