Esteban Ocon (Prema Powerteam) won important new poles at the Hungaroring after setting a best time of 1'35"800, three tenths ahead of his teammate Antonio Fuoco. The top five for both races is identical, with the Italian also completing the front row ahead of Lucas Auer (Mücke Motorsport), Felix Rosenqvist (Mücke Motorsport) and Max Verstappen (Van Amersfoort Racing). Tom Blomqvist (Jagonya Ayam with Carlin), winner of the first event of the weekend, only achieved the sixth fastest time for Race 2.
