Faced with a field notably composed of the outgoing champion Ukyo Sasahara, as well as Pietro Fittipaldi, Jamie Chadwick, Tatiana Calderon and Jack Doohan, Joey Alders (BlackArts Racing) surprised all his rivals by pocketing the first race of the F3 Asia 2019-2020 in Sepang, Malaysia.

3rd in qualifying behind Sasahara (Hitech GP) and Yu Kuai (Zn Motorsport), Alders took advantage of technical problems before the start of Sasahara, forced to start from the pits, to slip into the wake of Devlin DeFrancesco (Absolute Racing), author of the best flight.

After the intervention of the safety car following the trackside stop of Tatiana Calderon (Seven GP), and despite the arrival of rain, Alders finally took the advantage over the leader, who also had to give in to Jack Doohan. DeFrancesco nevertheless completed the podium in this first race.

Jamie Chadwick (Absolute Racing) finished 7th ahead of Ukyo Sasahara, while Pietro Fittipaldi (Pinnacle Motorsport) was forced to retire after eight laps. The last two races will take place tomorrow in Malaysia.
