Since the transition from GP2 to F2, the FIA is seeking to strengthen its hold on the junior single-seater categories. In order to complete the road from F4 to F1, a merger project is put in place between the GP3 Series and the European championship of Formula 3.
« We want to get closer to the motorcycle configuration with the MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3, explains Charlie Whiting. We already have the ranks of F1 and F2 and we hope to do the same with F3 in 2019."
If the details of this merger remain to be confirmed, particularly concerning the calendar and the future of the teams and cars, the new Formula 3 will wear the Halo like F2.
